1987 nyara: James Brennan friss diplomával a zsebében álmai nyaralására készül Európába. Ám amikor szülei megvonják az út anyagi támogatását, James-nek nincs más választása, mint munkát vállalni a helyi vidámparkban. Isten veletek német sörök, világhírű múzeumok és édes francia lányok! James-t ezen a nyáron türelmetlen apukák, plüssmackók és vattacukorért nyivákoló gyerekek várják. A rémálomba illő nyár azonban életre szóló kalandba fordul, amikor James pont ott talál rá a szerelemre, ahol a legkevésbé számít rá.

Greg Mottola író-rendező saját élményei alapján készítette el filmjét, amelyen érződik a pontos hely- és emberismeret. A film mulatságos felnőtté válási története mindazokhoz szól, akik dolgoztak már embert próbáló munkahelyeken, mégsem cserélnék el az élményt semmiért.
