A film egy zavarba ejtően valóságos orvosi jelenséggel indít. A ritka és ijesztő "altatási éberség" állapotában a műtét előtt elaltatott beteg éber marad és bár fizikailag lebénul, érzékel mindent, ami körülötte és vele történik, még a fájdalmat is. Miközben a félresikerült anesztézia során az ifjú és gazdag mágnás, Clay Beresford éber marad a szívműtétje közben és tehetetlenül hallgatja az őt körülvevő orvosokat, az elhangzó mondatokból lassan összerakja a képet: vagyis azt, hogy egész egyszerűen meg akarják gyilkolni.

A bűnözői pályára lépők közül keveseknek adatik meg a visszavonulás lehetősége, főleg olyan mennyiségű pénzzel, amelyre egész hátralévő életüket alapozhatják. John (Val Kilmer – Szemtől szemben, Dr. Moreau szigete, Top Gun) viszont belenyúl a tutiba, amikor megszerez egy aktatáskát, melynek tartalma egyesek számára igencsak sokat ér.

Az őt üldöző rendőrök és gengszterek elől menekülve egy parkban rejtőzik el, ahol azonban egy egyedül lévő kisfiú ráébreszti arra, hogy mielőtt lelépne a napfényes Floridába, rendeznie kell kapcsolatát a lányával, és ki kell békülnie volt feleségével (Marg Helgenberger – CSI: A helyszínelők).

Csakhogy erre mindössze pár órája van, különben könnyen előfordulhat, hogy a pénz helyett csak a testébe fúródó golyókat számolhatja meg.

Az utolsó meló izgalmas, fordulatokban gazdag film, remek színészi alakításokkal.

Joseph apjuk, a brooklyni rendőrkapitány nyomdokába lépett, és rendőrként szolgál. Bobby klubjának orosz tulajdonosa szoros szálakkal kapcsolódik a drogkereskedelemhez, Vadim, az unokaöccse a klubot használja a tranzakciók helyszínéül. Bobby bár személyesen nem érintett a drogüzletben, a "nem lát - nem kérdez" politikáját követi. Ám, amikor a rendőrség Joseph vezetésével lecsap a bűnözőkre, választania kell a régi és az új élete között.

Jack Conrad (Steve Austin) halálbüntetésének végrehajtására vár egy korrupt közép-amerikai börtönben.
